Many people sign up for streaming services in December to watch Christmas films.

Today, we'll help you compare packages using cost per month and value for money.

The Skill that Counts for Functional Skills is decision-making for personal needs and WHY.

You have a choice between two services.

Service A: £7.99 per month with unlimited films

Service B: £4.99 per month plus £2.50 to rent two films

You only plan to watch Christmas films for one month.

Step 1:

Work out the total cost of Service A

Monthly cost = £7.99

Total cost = £7.99

Step 2:

Work out the total cost of Service B

Monthly cost: £4.99Film rental cost: £2.50

Total cost = 4.99 + 2.50 = 7.49

Step 3:

Compare the two totals

Service A: £7.99

Service B: £7.49

Difference:7.99 − 7.49 = 0.50

Service B is 50p cheaper.

Step 4:

Consider value as well as cost

Service A allows unlimited films.

Service B limits you to two rentals.

The cheaper option may not give better value.

Skills that Count Check

Always compare total costs over the same time period.

Check for extra charges such as rentals or add-ons.

Cheapest is not always the best value.
